The Street Sketches series is a collection of books from Joey Mason, a Cartoonist, Animator and Visual Journalist based in Los Angeles, CA.

In the tradition of Searle and Sasek, Joey combines travel and traditional cartooning for a lively look at city life around the world. Each self-published book collects dozens of sketches from a single street or subject, capturing the rich variety within a place. The art is drawn on location through real experience, and includes cityscapes, architecture, people drawn from life, and sequential elements— along with captions that add context and background to each image.

Joey Mason is an Illustrator, Comic Artist and Animator based in Los Angeles, CA. In his personal work he documents cityscapes and events around LA though expressive, on location ink drawings. Joey is known for his urban landscapes and ongoing coverage of protests in LA.

Inspired by street photography, mid-century cartooning, and carnets de voyage, he hopes to capture often overlooked moments in an accessible art style, and cultivate an appreciation for everyday life. In the current artistic climate, Joey is pivoting from a career in the struggling US animation industry, and leaning into pursuing this documentary work full time, focusing on traditional art and storytelling from a human perspective.
